Brunei Launches Digital Tourism Platform Ahead of 2027

Southeast Asian corporate travel transforms as Brunei launches a unified digital tourism marketplace targeting 1M visitors for 2027.

Royal Brunei Airlines (RB) launched Discover Brunei on 4 November 2026 at World Travel Market (WTM) London 2026, a new digital discovery and booking platform that enables international visitors to find and book experiences in Brunei Darussalam. This innovative destination marketplace features tourism products such as culture and heritage, nature, adventure, diving and snorkelling, city tours and locally operated experiences. With Discover Brunei, travellers won’t need to visit multiple operator websites or navigate disconnected platforms to find experiences but will be able to discover and book available experiences with RB’s central digital platform. This will be a one-stop portal to discover what is available to do once visitors have arrived in Brunei.

A Digital Gateway to Brunei’s Local Experiences

Discover Brunei is intended to address a practical challenge faced by travellers planning trips to less familiar destinations: finding reliable information about local activities and identifying the businesses that provide them.

The platform allows visitors to browse tourism products and book experiences through one online destination. Its range is intended to cover different interests, from cultural and heritage activities to rainforest excursions, diving opportunities and city sightseeing.

The marketplace also has a business-facing purpose. Local tour operators and participating tourism companies can upload and promote their products, giving them another route to reach international customers.

This arrangement could be particularly useful for smaller tourism businesses that have limited access to overseas distribution networks. A central online presence can make their activities easier to discover among travellers researching Brunei before departure.

However, the airline has not published details of the total number of participating operators, booking targets, platform commissions or projected revenue. Its long-term commercial impact will therefore depend on supplier participation, visitor demand and the range of experiences available through the marketplace.

Rainforests, Heritage and Adventure Take Centre Stage

Brunei’s tourism proposition extends beyond its capital, Bandar Seri Begawan. The country offers a combination of Islamic architecture, historic settlements, traditional communities, tropical rainforest and coastal attractions.

The Temburong District is particularly important to its nature-based tourism appeal. Its rainforest landscapes and river experiences provide opportunities for visitors interested in outdoor activities and wildlife.

Cultural and heritage experiences offer another dimension. Travellers can explore the country’s mosques, museums, historical sites and traditional ways of life, while local food and community activities provide opportunities to engage with Brunei’s everyday culture.

The official Visit Brunei Year 2027 tourism programme also highlights these themes. Its published calendar includes rainforest exploration, cultural heritage, Islamic traditions, culinary experiences, arts and sporting activities. Brunei Tourism Official Site

By bringing different categories of experiences together, Discover Brunei can help visitors consider a broader itinerary rather than treating the country as a short stopover.

Local Tourism Businesses Gain International Visibility

The platform’s significance extends beyond the traveller booking process. It also creates an additional digital distribution channel for businesses operating within Brunei’s tourism sector.

Tour operators can showcase their activities to prospective international customers, potentially improving their visibility among visitors who might otherwise struggle to identify locally available experiences.

This is relevant as destination marketing increasingly depends on converting online interest into practical travel arrangements. Promoting a rainforest excursion or heritage tour is only one part of the process; visitors also need clear information about availability, operators and booking arrangements.

Discover Brunei seeks to connect these stages within a single marketplace. For local suppliers, the opportunity will depend on how easily they can maintain product listings, manage bookings and respond to customer enquiries.

The platform could also help tourism businesses present more specialist products, including community-led activities and guided experiences. Nevertheless, wider participation and consistent service standards will be important if the marketplace is to build confidence among overseas visitors.

WTM London Launch Builds International Awareness

The unveiling at WTM London 2026 gave Royal Brunei Airlines an international travel-industry setting to introduce the platform.

WTM brings together tourism organisations, airlines, travel companies, destination representatives and other industry participants. Launching Discover Brunei at the event places the platform before an audience that includes potential travel partners and international market representatives.

Adiel Mambara, Country Manager UK at Royal Brunei Airlines, said the initiative was intended to help travellers see Brunei as more than a stop on the map, highlighting its nature, heritage, food, culture and community experiences.

The airline’s Interim Chief Executive Officer, Colonel Norsuriati Haji Sharbini, also identified the difficulty of finding local activities and booking them as a challenge the platform aims to address. Brunei

Discover Brunei Supports Visit Brunei Year 2027

The launch comes as the country prepares for Visit Brunei Year 2027, a year-long national tourism campaign intended to introduce Brunei’s cultural identity, natural attractions and visitor experiences to international audiences.

The programme is organised around six broad themes: Islamic heritage and traditions, nature exploration, culinary experiences, cultural heritage and community, arts and creativity, and sports and recreation.

Its calendar features activities such as the Brunei Nature Trail, Bird Watching Festival, Brunei Fireflies Night Experience and Brunei Heritage Trail. The official programme also includes the Brunei Mid-Year Conference and Exhibition and the Brunei December Festival. Event dates and details remain subject to change as arrangements are confirmed. Discover Brunei complements this campaign by giving travellers a practical way to explore and book experiences associated with the destination. The platform also aligns with Wawasan Brunei 2035, the country’s long-term development vision, particularly its ambition to build a dynamic and resilient economy.

Tourism can support this objective by creating opportunities for accommodation providers, transport businesses, guides, restaurants and community-based operators.

A New Booking Channel as Brunei Prepares for 2027

Discover Brunei also expands the role of Royal Brunei Airlines in helping visitors to discover Brunei and tourism businesses in the country. It also opens another window for local businesses to showcase their products and services to the world. The effectiveness of Discover Brunei will be determined by the number and diversity of experiences in the market, the quality of the operations’ tourism standards and the availability and transparency of booking arrangements to satisfy what is expected by visitors. As Visit Brunei Year 2027 beckons, the new marketplace completes the picture of what local tourism promotion to the world needs to achieve.
