Philippines Opens New e-Visa TravelApplications for UAE Residents With Digital Approvals and Multiple-Entry Options

The Philippines introduces e-Visas to tourists in Dubai.

The Philippines introduces e-Visas to tourists in Dubai. The Philippines has now introduced an e-Visa system to allow eligible UAE residents to apply for their travel permission online. This will be particularly useful for expats from countries who require a Philippine visa. Visitors can choose to apply for a one-off or multiple entry visa which start from AED 260. Once approved visitors can display their visa online or in printed form upon arrival. The Philippines hopes to encourage further tourism from the UAE by making the application process easier.

Dubai Joins the Philippines’ Expanding Global e-Visa Network

The Philippine Consulate in Dubai has started processing electronic visas, joining 94 other Philippine missions around the world already offering the service. The announcement therefore places Dubai within a network of 95 missions.

For UAE-based travellers, this creates another way to obtain approval before visiting the Philippines. The digital process reduces reliance on physical visa stickers, while maintaining the requirement to meet immigration conditions.

Applicants must still use the appropriate visa category, receive approval and observe the authorised purpose and duration of their visit.

Which UAE Residents Are Eligible for the New e-Visa?

The main beneficiaries are foreign residents of the UAE who hold passports from countries that require a visa to enter the Philippines. The announcement identifies nationals of at least 37 countries as potential beneficiaries.

These include India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Iran, Iraq, Egypt, Lebanon, Palestine, Sudan, Syria, Ukraine and Yemen. The expanded service is therefore relevant to several expatriate communities across the Emirates.

UAE residency alone does not establish visa eligibility. Rules depend on passport nationality and relevant immigration conditions. Emirati citizens, together with many European, Canadian, US and Southeast Asian passport holders, already benefit from visa-free or visa-on-arrival arrangements where applicable. Their existing entry privileges are separate from the new scheme.

How Will Digital Visa Approval Work?

Travellers can access the service through the official Philippine e-Visa portal. Once an application is approved, the visa is available electronically.

Upon arrival, approved e-Visa holders may present it on a device or carry a printed copy. A physical visa sticker is no longer attached to the passport for these electronic approvals.

However, the digital system does not replace every traditional visa process. It will operate alongside Machine Readable Visa (MRV) stickers used for individual temporary visitor visas under Category 9(a) and other applicable categories.

This arrangement gives applicants an additional processing option while existing visa services continue.

Philippines e-Visa Fees, Validity and Processing Times

The announced fees and estimated processing periods vary according to the type of visa selected.

Visa typeProcessing timeFee
Single entry7–12 working daysAED 260
Multiple entry, six-month validity15–40 working daysAED 420
Multiple entry, one-year validity15–40 working daysAED 580

Processing times are indicative. Travellers should submit applications ahead of their planned journeys and allow for potential delays.

A six-month or one-year multiple-entry visa does not permit a continuous stay for that entire period. Visa validity and the number of days allowed on each visit are different conditions.

How Long Can Travellers Remain in the Philippines?

The permitted stay ranges from seven to 59 days, depending on nationality and the terms of the approved visa.

Visitors should check the length of stay written in their own approval rather than assume that everyone qualifies for 59 days.

The difference matters particularly for multiple-entry visas. A document may remain valid for six months or one year, but each visit must still comply with its authorised duration. Travellers should plan departures accordingly and avoid overstaying.

Which Activities Are Allowed Under the e-Visa?

The newly announced e-Visa is described as intended for tourism and not for employment. It is non-extendable and cannot be converted into a different visa, including a student or employment visa.

The supplied visa details also refer to business, pleasure, medical treatment, training, conferences, meetings, workshops and seminars as temporary visitor purposes. Applicants should confirm whether their intended activity qualifies for an e-Visa or requires another visa category.

Anyone planning to work, study or remain longer than permitted must obtain the appropriate immigration authorisation instead of relying on a tourism visa.

Why the Change Matters for Philippines Tourism

The Dubai rollout could make holiday planning easier for eligible expatriates living in the UAE, especially those who previously relied on physical visa applications. Digital approvals provide a convenient document to present when travelling.

For the Philippines, broader access to the electronic system supports efforts to attract international visitors and strengthen tourism links with the UAE. Actual visitor growth will depend on demand and successful applications.

Before booking, travellers should confirm eligibility, choose the right entry option, check processing times and understand their visa conditions.
