IHG Hotels & Resorts has unveiled plans to expand its presence in regional Australia with the signing of two Holiday Inn properties in Tamworth, New South Wales, and Rockhampton, Queensland. The developments will introduce the internationally recognised hospitality brand to two significant regional markets, strengthening accommodation options for business and leisure travellers.
Together, the two hotels will provide 190 rooms, with the Tamworth project involving the renovation and expansion of an existing property, while the Rockhampton hotel will be developed as a new-build establishment. La Vie Hotels & Resorts has been appointed to operate both properties, supporting IHG’s continued growth across Australia’s regional hospitality sector.
The agreements reflect growing investment opportunities in regional tourism and hotel infrastructure. By upgrading existing accommodation and introducing new facilities, the developments aim to attract more visitors, strengthen local tourism activity and contribute to regional economic growth. Both hotels will also benefit from Holiday Inn’s international brand recognition and IHG’s extensive global sales, distribution and loyalty platforms, helping connect these destinations with a wider network of domestic and international travellers.
Matt Tripolone, Managing Director, Australasia & Pacific, IHG Hotels & Resorts, said: “Regional Australia has so much to offer, and quality accommodation plays an important role in helping these destinations realise economic potential.
“Holiday Inn is one of the world’s most recognised and trusted hotel brands, with a reputation built on warm, welcoming hospitality, comfort and genuine value. It’s a brand that feels equally at home welcoming families on holiday, business travellers and guests attending regional events, making it an ideal fit for both Tamworth and Rockhampton.
“Once open, both hotels will benefit from IHG’s global distribution channels, sales network and IHG One Rewards loyalty programme, creating opportunities to attract more visitors, build strong hotel businesses and contribute to the long-term success of these regional communities.”
Holiday Inn Tamworth to Expand Accommodation Capacity with Major Refurbishment
Holiday Inn Tamworth is set to undergo a significant transformation as the existing 60-room Best Western Sanctuary Inn is redeveloped into a modern hospitality property. The refurbishment will include extensive upgrades to guest rooms, the reception area and restaurant, with completion scheduled for 2027. A further 30 rooms are planned for construction by 2029, increasing the hotel’s total capacity to 90 rooms.
The upgraded property will strengthen accommodation options in Tamworth, a major business and events destination in regional New South Wales. Widely recognised for hosting the Tamworth Country Music Festival, the city attracts visitors throughout the year for corporate activities, government engagements and leisure experiences. Its established agriculture, logistics, healthcare and education industries also contribute to consistent demand for quality accommodation.
Holiday Inn & Suites Rockhampton to Introduce Modern Rooms and Event Facilities
Holiday Inn & Suites Rockhampton will expand Central Queensland’s hospitality offering with the development of a new hotel featuring 100 modern guest rooms. The accommodation mix will include 40 one-bedroom and two-bedroom suites, providing additional flexibility for families, business travellers and guests planning longer visits.
Developed within a mixed-use precinct, the property will offer facilities designed for both relaxation and professional gatherings. These will include 350 square metres of conference and event space, a function room accommodating 100 guests and an outdoor swimming pool. The hotel is expected to serve corporate visitors, holidaymakers and extended-stay travellers while supporting Rockhampton’s position as an important regional centre for mining and resources, agriculture, business activities and tourism.
Jerry Xu, Founder and Chief Executive Officer, La Vie Hotels & Resorts, said: “Tamworth and Rockhampton are two very different markets, but both reward a hotel that gets the basics right and knows its town. Holiday Inn gives travellers a name they already trust, and we’ll bring the local know-how to make each hotel work for business, events and family guests.
“These signings reflect La Vie’s continued growth across Australia, from Townsville to Tamworth, and the strength of our partnership with IHG. We look forward to working closely with IHG and our owners to deliver two hotels built to perform and become valued parts of their local communities.”
Founded in 1952, Holiday Inn has grown into one of the most established and widely recognised names in the global hospitality industry, operating more than 1,260 hotels worldwide. The brand has built its reputation on friendly service, modern guest rooms, comprehensive hospitality facilities and inviting communal spaces designed for relaxation and connection. As traveller expectations continue to change, Holiday Inn keeps enhancing its guest experience while preserving the dependable comfort, welcoming atmosphere and consistent quality that have made it a trusted choice for generations.
