Tintswalo opens Scops Rest villa in Klaserie Private Nature Reserve

Tintswalo has expanded its safari portfolio with the opening of Scops Rest, an exclusive-use bush villa in South Africa’s Klaserie Private Nature Reserve, Greater Kruger.

Tintswalo has expanded its safari portfolio with the opening of Tintswalo Scops Rest in the Klaserie Private Nature Reserve, part of South Africa’s Greater Kruger area. Named after the Scops Owl, the new property offers exclusive-use accommodation in one of the country’s most pristine wildlife regions.

Designed for families or small groups of up to eight guests, Scops Rest combines privacy with comfort. The villa includes four en-suite bedrooms, spacious indoor and outdoor living areas, a private gym, and a swimming pool overlooking the bush. Guests can plan their own daily schedule, with flexible dining times and optional spa treatments.

For guests seeking a more immersive experience, two private treehouses are available as optional overnight sleep-outs. One is located above the reserve’s largest dam, providing a view and soundscape of hippos, crocodiles, and native birdlife.

Each stay at Scops Rest includes the services of a private chef, butler, and safari guide, as well as a dedicated vehicle for twice-daily Big 5 game drives or guided bush walks. Dining experiences range from outdoor bush breakfasts and boma dinners to international-style meals, with all meals and house drinks included.

The villa also caters to families with children, offering bush-focused activities and local cultural experiences such as pottery-making. Childminding services are available to allow parents time to relax or explore the reserve on their own.

According to Tintswalo CEO Lisa Goosen, the property offers rare advantages that distinguish it within the safari landscape: convenient access just 30 minutes from Hoedspruit and Eastgate Airport, low vehicle density within the reserve, and Tintswalo’s exclusive 3,000 hectares of river frontage. “This new addition complements our portfolio by offering something truly unique for exclusive-use guests,” she explains. “With 10,000 hectares of traversing rights, including 18 kilometers along the perennial Klaserie River, we can provide unrushed, uninterrupted game viewing in a Big 5 territory that remains wild, free, and untouched.”

The Klaserie Private Nature Reserve, established more than five decades ago, covers 60,000 hectares and shares unfenced borders with Kruger National Park and the Great Limpopo Transfrontier Conservation Area. The reserve supports conservation initiatives and community projects, preserving a diverse ecosystem that is home to endangered species.

With Scops Rest, Tintswalo continues to strengthen its position in the African safari market, adding a new destination that combines exclusivity, accessibility, and connection to one of the continent’s most important conservation landscapes.

The Tintswalo Collection, owned by the Corbett Family, is a portfolio of boutique lodges and luxury villas located in some of Southern Africa’s most iconic destinations. Under the leadership of CEO Lisa Goosen, the family-owned brand is expanding thoughtfully in 2025/26 while keeping conservation central to its ethos.

Its new opening, Tintswalo Scops Rest (Klaserie Private Nature Reserve, Sept 2025), combines exclusive-use comfort with conservation-focused guiding, while Tintswalo Summer House (Cape Town, Dec 2025) will blend seaside charm with Tintswalo’s established safari DNA. Meanwhile, properties such as Tintswalo Safari Lodge in the Manyeleti continue to engage guests in wildlife monitoring and sustainability practices.

Across the collection, guests can enjoy a diverse range of experiences – from coastal retreats in Cape Town and penguin encounters at Tintswalo Boulders to Zambezi river adventures at Tintswalo Siankaba, Big Five safaris in the Waterberg and Greater Kruger, and private family escapes at Tintswalo Manor. Each property is designed to reflect its natural surroundings, celebrating Africa’s landscapes while offering immersive and conservation-led hospitality.
