A shared Pawssion for dogs and animal welfare

Demonstrating its unwavering dedication to furry companions, Sabangan Beach Resort recently forged a meaningful partnership with Pawssion Project and Pet Partner Philippines Inc. to host a delightful three-day, two-night beach retreat. This heartwarming event welcomed an array of guests, enthusiastic volunteers, passionate advocates, and the star of the gathering—10 charming senior rescue dogs from Bulacan—creating an atmosphere filled with joy and camaraderie.

The retreat was not just a scenic getaway; it also featured a compassionate free pet medical mission, spearheaded by the skilled and caring Doc Gab of Pet Partner Philippines Inc. During this impactful initiative, a devoted veterinary team provided much-needed services, including complimentary veterinary consultations, rabies vaccinations, and kapon (deworming) treatments for both community animals and the cherished pets of the Sabangan team.

Steeped in an ethos of compassion and shared responsibility for animal welfare, the dedicated veterinary team provided exceptional care infused with genuine empathy, ensuring that each pet received not just attention but also heartfelt kindness. This extraordinary day not only underscored the vital importance of animal care but also cultivated a vibrant sense of community and an unwavering commitment to the well-being of our cherished four-legged companions.

Lisa Salvador-Bringas, director of Sabangan Beach Resort, said, “We decided to do a medical mission because we saw a lot of community dogs entering Sabangan, maybe sensing that it is a safe space for them. We noticed more and more dogs from guests and our staff, and we wondered if they had rabies shots or if they are able to see a vet regularly. So we decided to do something that’s really at the core of who we are as a pet-friendly resort, and hold a medical mission in our own backyard, for our staff and their furbabies as well.”

The resort proudly showcased its unwavering dedication to animal welfare by making a generous cash donation of Php 25,000 to the Pawssion Project. In addition, it made an in-kind donation of Php 25,000 to support the operations of animal shelters in Bulacan. Furthermore, beginning in 2023, the resort has launched a heartwarming initiative in which all proceeds from pet check-ins in August are donated to celebrate Aspin Month, honoring the beloved local breed. This multifaceted approach not only supports animal welfare but also fosters a sense of community and compassion.

Malou Perez, the passionate founder of The Pawssion Project, shared her heartfelt reflections on the experience: “Before arriving in the enchanting village of Sabangan, I had encountered numerous so-called ‘pet-friendly’ places that turned out to be anything but. However, witnessing the sheer joy of rescue dogs frolicking on the beach—free from the need for diapers—was a revelation. Sabangan is truly a haven for pets and embodies a deep commitment to eco-consciousness.

Water bowls were thoughtfully provided, and the warm welcome enveloped us like a comforting embrace. After seven years dedicated to rescuing and rehabilitating dogs, it was profoundly gratifying to take them to a place where they could genuinely revel in their surroundings. For someone who advocates for these animals, discovering a locale that warmly invites all dogs and cats, from aspins to puspins, is incredibly meaningful.”

The event was not merely a medical mission; it became a vibrant celebration of life, the gift of second chances, and the quiet, profound joy that arises from kindness extended without hesitation. Watching senior rescue dogs explore the soft, golden sand and the inviting sea, their tails wagging with delight despite their age, served as a poignant reminder of the transformative power of care—restoring hope, comfort, and visibility to these deserving animals.
