Religious and Cultural Heritage as the Core of the Plan

Qom is considered one of the most spiritually significant cities in Iran, with Qom’s Holy Shrine of Fatimah Masumeh being a major pilgrimage site. This rich religious heritage has long attracted pilgrims, and the Comprehensive Tourism Plan aims to capitalize on this by developing tourism strategies that highlight Qom’s importance as a religious and cultural hub.

The focus on pilgrimage tourism is crucial for Qom’s long-term tourism development. The city’s centrality in Shia Islam makes it an important destination for religious tourism, which the new plan will specifically target. By preserving and enhancing its cultural and religious authenticity, the city can attract more visitors who are seeking spiritual experiences, while offering them a deeper understanding of its traditions and history.

Qom’s religious sites, particularly the Fatimah Masumeh Shrine, are vital to Iran’s tourism sector, drawing millions of visitors each year. However, the province’s tourism offering extends beyond pilgrimage. The Comprehensive Tourism Plan aims to diversify Qom’s tourism by introducing a broader range of activities, including cultural exchanges, heritage tourism, and opportunities for eco-tourism, thus making the province appealing to a wider demographic of tourists.

Economic Development and Job Creation Through Tourism

A central goal of the Qom Tourism Plan is to leverage tourism as a driver for economic development. By improving the province’s tourism infrastructure, Qom hopes to create a vibrant economy centered around hospitality, cultural tourism, and religious tourism, which will bring in both investment and employment opportunities.

As part of this initiative, local businesses will play a significant role. The plan recognizes that tourism can stimulate the local economy by generating income for hotels, restaurants, transportation providers, and other businesses that rely on visitors. A surge in pilgrimage tourism will also stimulate demand for accommodation, tour guides, transport services, and other tourist amenities.

The development of sustainable tourism practices will also focus on improving the quality of life for locals by ensuring that they benefit from tourism without suffering from overcrowding or environmental degradation. By integrating the needs of local communities into the tourism strategy, Qom aims to achieve inclusive growth that benefits both residents and visitors alike.

The Role of Local Communities and Stakeholder Engagement

A critical component of Qom’s tourism strategy is the active involvement of local communities and tourism stakeholders. The province recognizes the importance of community-based tourism, where locals are encouraged to participate in and benefit from tourism activities. Through these efforts, the Comprehensive Tourism Plan will seek to empower local residents by providing them with the resources and knowledge to participate in the tourism industry, whether through guiding tours, managing homestays, or offering artisanal products.

The success of the plan relies on strong partnerships between government bodies, private sector companies, and community groups. Local businesses will play a key role in enhancing the visitor experience, ensuring that tourism development is aligned with the interests and needs of the people living in Qom. By working together, the stakeholders can build a tourism infrastructure that not only enhances the visitor experience but also supports long-term growth and cultural preservation.
