Megaworld Hotels & Resorts Launches Mindful Travel Campaign, Showcased at Chancellor Boracay

What comes to mind when you hear the word mindfulness? For some, it’s awareness or consciousness. For others, it’s the art of slowing down, being fully present, sensitive, responsible, and in tune with the world around you.

Megaworld Hotels & Resorts, recently recognized as the first Muslim-friendly hotel chain in the Philippines, is set to launch a Mindful Travel campaign and package, a thoughtful initiative that allows travelers to experience destinations with intention and care. A portion of the proceeds from the package will go to supporting the Ati community, reflecting Megaworld’s commitment to giving back and promoting sustainable tourism. The first simulation of the program took place at the soon-to-open Chancellor Hotel, Megaworld’s third property in Boracay Newcoast, alongside Savoy Hotel, known for its colorful and vibrant design, and Belmont Hotel, ideal for business travelers seeking comfort and convenience.

“We wanted our guests to get involved. We want to allow them to experience it for themselves. The only way for us to make it accessible, realistic and simplified is to convert it into an experiential platform, which is through our Mindful Stays program,” said Samantha Manuel, Group Director for Digital Marketing & Reputation Management, during the press conference.

The media preview was graced by key figures from Megaworld Hotels & Resorts, including Cleofe Albiso, Managing Director; Sonny Alvaro, Cluster General Manager for Visayas; Maiah Israel, Area General Manager for Boracay Newcoast; and Arturo Boncato, Group General Manager, highlighting the significance of the launch.

True to Megaworld’s long-standing tradition of honoring Filipino culture, such as its tribute to the Sampaguita, the country’s national flower, the program also highlighted the Sampaguita planting activity held last November 21 near Belmont Boracay.

By the end of the experience, the message was clear: This wasn’t just another trip. It was a gentle invitation to pay attention, to reconnect, and to experience travel in a more intentional and mindful way.

The campaign also features Sustainable Essentials, think eco-friendly amenities, mindful challenges with rewards, and community support with every stay, helping fund their partner community.

November 20 Lunch: A Celebration of Local Flavor

Lunch was prepared by Chef Panky, the Group Corporate Executive Chef of Megaworld Hotels & Resorts (MHR), and it opened with Laswa, the iconic Iloilo boiled vegetable soup known for its clean and nourishing taste. It felt like a hug in bowl form. The spicy papaya ensalada followed, adding a sharp kick that perfectly balanced the warmth of the soup. Then came the pork humba belly, tender and rich and savory in all the right ways.

Herb grilled fish

The boneless chicken inasal brought a smoky, charred aroma that almost everyone at the table immediately noticed. We also had herb grilled fish and a vegan gising gising, a dish that surprised many of us with how flavorful a plant based option could be. And because no meal feels complete without dessert, we ended with a slice of sapin sapin cheesecake which blended tradition with a bit of modern indulgence.

A Thoughtful Beginning: Day 1 Dinner

Our first evening set the tone beautifully. Instead of a loud, busy welcome dinner, we received an in-room dining experience that felt personal and purposeful. The highlight was a line-caught fish cooked pina paksiw style. Alongside the fish were grilled eggplant, tomato, and okra.

Coconut Mango Tapioca Pudding

Instead of a usual plain white rice, we were served with a kiyuning ginger, lemongrass, and turmeric rice carried a fragrant warmth that tied the whole plate together. For dessert, we had a coconut mango tapioca pudding and an island calamansi fizz drink. It was a meal created with intention and respect for local produce.

This was followed by a quiet in-room tea activity. Instead of receiving a ready-made drink, we were invited to create our own SaMaRRa tea blend. It was a lovely moment that encouraged us to play with different flavors, scents, and textures. They provided simple instructions, and the whole experience felt both meditative and intimate.

Mindfulness with Dr. Marian Alonzo and Yoga with Daniela Pop

After lunch, the mood shifted from culinary appreciation to inner reflection. Dr. Marian Alonzo guided us through a mindfulness session that encouraged a slower pace. Her voice was calm and reassuring, reminding us to return to our breath, to notice our thoughts without judgment, and to simply be present. It was refreshing to be reminded that mindfulness does not have to be complicated. It can be as simple as pausing for a moment and giving yourself permission to breathe.

Right after the mindfulness session came a relaxing yoga practice led by Daniela Pop. Her flow was easy and steady, perfect for us who never tried yoga before. She guided our movements with ease, and within minutes, the entire room felt calmer and more connected. It was a session that left our bodies stretched and our minds quiet.

Day 2: Planting

Day 2 opened with an experience that brought everyone closer to nature and the community. Together with Megaworld Hotels & Resorts (MHR) executives, who continue to uphold the Sampaguita’s symbolism of purity and grace at the core of their values, the group witnessed a Sampaguita planting activity near Belmont Hotel Boracay. It felt meaningful to see seedlings carefully placed into the soil, the earth gently pressed around them, and to imagine them blooming in the months ahead.

The activity served as a quiet reminder that travel does not always need to be fast, loud, or busy. Sometimes, the most memorable moments come simply from observing, slowing down, and taking it all in.

Livelihood partnership grant ceremony organized by Megaworld Hotels & Resorts

Chancellor Hotel Boracay also recently hosted a livelihood partnership grant ceremony organized by Megaworld Hotels & Resorts’ Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) team. The event was attended by members of the Ati community, highlighting the brand’s commitment to supporting local livelihoods and sustainable development. The ceremony demonstrated how Megaworld integrates community care into its operations, reinforcing the hotel’s purpose-driven and mindful ethos.

The Mindful Challenge: Small Actions With a Big Message

One of the most memorable parts of this event was the Mindfulness Challenge. Each participant received a list of small sustainable actions that could be done during our stay. Each action had a point value. The goal was not to compete but to stay aware of the kind of choices we were making throughout the trip.

Some examples from the list included supporting local goods, walking on the shores instead of using motorized transport, conserving electricity inside our rooms, joining mindful activities, trying sustainable meal options, and participating in community-centered experiences. It turned mindfulness into something fun and easy to practice. Guests found themselves walking more, eating more consciously, and being mindful of energy consumption.

Every small action felt like a gentle reminder that sustainability does not always require grand gestures. It often begins with personal choices.

A Vision for the New Age Traveler

Across every activity, Megaworld Hotels & Resorts communicated a clear message. Mindful travel is not something that can be captured in words alone—it is meant to be experienced, felt, and allowed to influence the way one sees the world. It invites travelers to truly immerse themselves in a place instead of rushing past it. It encourages them to care for the environment while enjoying the thoughtful comforts of a well-planned trip. This simulation and campaign serve as a gentle reminder that mindfulness is best understood through action, presence, and intention.

Through this initiative, Megaworld is shaping a travel movement that blends comfort with consciousness. It is a refreshing direction for hospitality and one that many travelers will be excited to follow.

For those of us who joined, the experience was not just memorable. It felt transformative. And it clearly marked the beginning of a more mindful way to see the world.
