The northern province of Luang Namtha in Laos has emerged as a standout destination in 2025, recording 985,322 visitors from January to September, a 9 percent rise compared to the same period last year. This steady growth highlights the province’s increasing popularity among travelers seeking cultural immersion, scenic landscapes, and eco-tourism experiences.

Experts credit the surge in visitors to effective promotion strategies and a series of engaging local festivals that draw both domestic and international tourists. Building on the momentum of the Visit Laos Year 2024 campaign, Luang Namtha has positioned itself as a must-visit province with a rich calendar of cultural events. The region’s festivals, including the Akha Swing Festival, Hmong New Year celebrations, Rocket Festival, and traditional boat races in Nalae and Viengphoukha districts, have provided immersive experiences that go beyond typical sightseeing.

One of the key highlights this year was the Forest Trekking and Boat Trip Festival, held in early October within the Nam Ha National Protected Area. The eco-conscious festival attracted close to 200 participants and emphasized sustainable tourism practices while showcasing the province’s natural beauty.
