The serene Jampui Hills in North Tripura, celebrated for its orange orchards, mist-covered peaks, and cool mountain air, is preparing for a tourism revival. A new eco-friendly homestay project is being developed to transform this lush hill region into a model destination for sustainable and community-driven tourism.

Launched under the Tourism Department’s vision for responsible travel, the project will be executed through the Tripura Rural Livelihood Mission in partnership with the district administration. The goal is to provide a nature-friendly experience for visitors while creating long-term livelihood opportunities for local communities.

The upcoming complex will rise near the scenic viewpoint between Vangmun and Bethelianchip—an area known for its breathtaking views of rolling hills and valleys. With an estimated investment of ₹2.5 crore, the project will blend traditional design with modern amenities to offer tourists an immersive stay experience that aligns with the region’s natural ecosystem.

The plan includes five eco-lodges, a conference hall, a cultural and food centre, solar-powered energy systems, a children’s recreation area, and a dedicated parking zone. The use of sustainable building materials will ensure that the structures harmonise with the surrounding environment.

A Community-Centred Tourism Model

Unlike commercial resorts, the Jampui Hills homestay project will be managed by local self-help groups. These groups will oversee hospitality, cleanliness, and maintenance—ensuring that the project benefits residents directly. The initiative aims to strengthen community ownership, generate employment, and preserve the region’s culture and environment.

Local artisans, farmers, and small business owners will also find new opportunities through associated ventures such as souvenir shops, organic produce markets, cafés, and guided tours. The focus on local participation makes this project a cornerstone of inclusive tourism development.

Once complete, the homestay complex will operate entirely on renewable energy.
