Explore The Wonders Of The Mediterranean And Northern Europe Aboard Viking Vela
Viking Vela completes its first year, offering Mediterranean, Northern Europe cruises, and new itineraries for 2026.
The Viking Vela cruise completed its first anniversary of service on December 12, 2022. To Viking Cruises, this anniversary means another milestone in its journey, as they cruise in luxury. After Viking Vela completed her maiden voyage and first Mediterranean summer season, she became a fixture in Europe’s luxury cruise market. Viking Vela became the 11th ship in the company’s fleet in a decade, having been delivered on December 3, 2021. Viking Vela is a ship like no other. It was built and delivered to Viking Cruise’s specifications by Fincantieri Shipyard in Ancona, Italy, and set sail from Civitavecchia, Italy.
Completing inaugural Mediterranean season
Just a week after Fincantieri delivered the ship to Viking Cruises, she commenced her maiden voyage from Civitavecchia. Onboard guests had the opportunity to discover and enjoy the Mediterranean’s and Europe’s culture and scenery. On this inaugural voyage, passengers enjoyed the luxury service to Spain, Italy, and France. With a week-long itinerary, guests enjoyed the cruise’s charm with the ship’s overnight stay in Barcelona, as well as exploration of Livorno, Marseille, Villefranche, and Sète.
In mid-January 2025, after finishing its journeys, Viking Vela relocated to Northern Europe to join Viking’s itinerary, ‘In Search of the Northern Lights.’ This 12-night cruise to the Netherlands and Norway is designed to showcase the breathtaking views of the Northern Lights.
Expanding Itineraries.
After completing her first season in Northern Europe, the Viking Vela offered even more diverse itineraries playing in the Northern European region, venturing into Iceland and the British Isles, along with breathtaking journeys through new and spectacular landscapes. This significant upgrade to Vela’s itineraries, adding longer and immersive journeys, catered to the demand of her guests to adventure & relax. It proved to be a contributing factor to Vela’s early success.
2026 saw Viking Vela enter her second year of service with a reprise of many of her itineraries from the previous season. The year again commenced with a series of voyages through the Mediterranean, with Vela once again making her seasonal transition to Northern Europe in January, now with a more extensive ‘In Search of the Northern Lights’ series, scheduled to extend the series through to the end of March 2026.
Vikings Vela’s Voyage Highlights
An example of one of Viking Vela’s first and most exciting itineraries is the 28-night journey that starts from Bergen, Norway, and sails across the North Atlantic. Passengers will sail through the world’s most beautiful and remote destinations in July 2026. Viking Vela will dock in several ports, including Norway, Svalbard, Iceland, Greenland, Canada, and will finally end in New York City.

Viking’s Growing Fleet
Viking Vela will start trading in 2025. This will only be the start of the exciting expansion of Viking Cruises, with 2026 introducing yet another new addition to the fleet, the Viking Vesta. Continuing their expansion, Viking is dedicated to providing guests with innovative and luxurious travel experiences.
In 2026, Viking will have even more vessels to add to its fleet, Viking Mira and Viking Libra, which will enhance its position as industry pioneers in the luxury cruise segment. Viking will continue to provide high-end experiences to luxury travelers craving immersive experiences.
