Civitatis reports double-digit summer growth as travellers choose alternative experiences in major destinations

Civitatis recorded double-digit global booking growth in summer 2025, driven by rising demand for alternative activities in major destinations as travellers seek personalised and less crowded experiences.

MADRID – Civitatis, the online platform specialising in guided tours and activities in Spanish and Portuguese, has reported double-digit global booking growth during summer 2025. The company highlighted strong performance across Argentina, Italy, Brazil, Mexico and Spain, supported by growing traveller interest in original and experience-led activities.

Mixed summer season influenced by overtourism measures

While global demand for travel remained high over the summer, some major tourism hubs implemented capacity restrictions and access regulations to combat overtourism. In Rome, for example, priority was given to pilgrims during the Jubilee Year, which reduced booking availability for international visitors.

Travellers shift toward alternative and personalised activities

Despite reduced availability in iconic sites, Civitatis noted a clear demand shift toward alternative experiences, with travellers using digital tools and AI-powered search to discover less crowded activities.

Top-performing experiences included:

  • Mont Saint-Michel excursion from Paris: +18%
  • Guatapé excursion from Medellín, Colombia: +13%
  • Desert safari with dinner in Dubai: +26%
  • Český Krumlov excursion from Prague: +26%
  • Boat tour of Benagil Caves, Algarve: +48%

These results reflect a broader move toward authentic, localised and flexible travel planning, even within destinations traditionally dominated by a few headline attractions.
