Canada’s luxury travel sector is poised for record growth, driven by evolving consumer preferences that increasingly favor personalization, sustainability, and family-oriented adventures. As more affluent travelers seek unique, tailor-made experiences, the demand for personalized itineraries has surged. These travelers are looking for bespoke journeys that reflect their individual interests, whether through exclusive cultural experiences, luxurious accommodations, or private tours. Additionally, there is a noticeable shift toward sustainability, as travelers become more conscious of the environmental impact of their vacations. This has led to a rising demand for eco-friendly and sustainable travel options, from carbon-conscious transportation to accommodations that prioritize environmental responsibility. Moreover, family-oriented travel has gained significant traction, with multi-generational families eager to explore destinations that offer something for every age group. As these trends continue to evolve, Canada’s luxury travel market is expected to see impressive growth, as it caters to the new generation of travelers who prioritize meaningful, sustainable, and personalized adventures.

This insight was shared during the 2026 Canada Forum, a key event that brought together leaders from the travel industry. Held at the Fairmont Palliser in Calgary, the event provided an excellent platform for over 100 attendees, including travel agency owners, managers, and preferred partners from around the world, to discuss the evolving trends and innovations within the luxury travel market. The two-day conference delved into the future of luxury travel, offering valuable perspectives from both industry experts and peers.

One of the key themes discussed at the forum was the rise of multi-generational travel, a growing trend where families of various age groups travel together to experience destinations in a shared, meaningful way. As families increasingly seek experiences that cater to a wide range of ages and preferences, destinations and travel services are adapting to meet the needs of both young children and elderly family members. This type of travel is increasingly seen as an opportunity to strengthen family bonds while exploring new and exciting places around the world.

Another significant trend highlighted was the growing demand for authenticity and cultural immersion. Travelers are no longer content with just seeing the main tourist attractions; they are looking for deeper connections to the places they visit. This shift is pushing travel companies to offer more immersive and off-the-beaten-path experiences that allow travelers to engage with local cultures, traditions, and customs in meaningful ways. Whether through guided cultural tours, local culinary experiences, or involvement in community-driven initiatives, affluent travelers are seeking authentic experiences that provide them with a sense of connection to the places they explore.

Nature-based excursions also featured prominently in the discussions. With a rising awareness of environmental sustainability and a growing desire to reconnect with nature, many luxury travelers are seeking eco-friendly and nature-focused experiences. From remote wilderness retreats to sustainable adventure tourism, travelers are choosing destinations that allow them to explore pristine landscapes while minimizing their environmental impact. This shift toward nature-focused travel aligns with broader global trends toward environmental responsibility and sustainable tourism.

In addition to these trends, the importance of travel advisors in the luxury market was also underscored. Travel advisors remain central to the planning and execution of high-end travel experiences, offering their expertise, personalized service, and insider knowledge. A report from 2025 revealed that 33% of affluent Canadian travelers expressed interest in working with a travel advisor in 2026, eight percentage points higher than the global average. This increased interest highlights the growing value placed on expert guidance when curating complex and bespoke travel experiences.

The forum also featured insights from Virtuoso’s Executive Vice President of Strategic Communications, who shared the latest performance data for the network across Canada. In 2025, sales from preferred partners within the Virtuoso network in Canada grew by 9% year over year, with significant increases across all categories. Tours led the charge with a remarkable 74% growth, followed by cruises at 33%, hotels at 16%, and on-site services at 5%. The network’s preferred partner ADR (Average Daily Rates) remained strong throughout the year, peaking at US$1,870 in December, underscoring the resilience and continued demand for luxury travel services.

Looking ahead, the outlook for the luxury travel sector remains highly positive. According to the January 2026 Virtuoso Pulse Survey, 71% of network members reported feeling optimistic about their business prospects, an increase from 69% mid-2025. Likewise, partner optimism also saw an uptick, rising to 62% from 56% over the same period. The 2026 Virtuoso Luxe Report, which surveyed luxury travel advisors, found that nearly half of Canadian advisors expect a modest rise in travel demand, with 13% anticipating a significant surge. Furthermore, a majority of advisors expect the average spend per trip to either remain steady or rise slightly, with 60% predicting at least a modest increase, and 18% expecting client spending to stay the same.

As the luxury travel market continues to grow and evolve, key trends such as multi-generational travel, authenticity, nature-based experiences, and the ongoing importance of travel advisors are shaping the future of the industry. With high levels of optimism among industry leaders and consumers alike, the luxury travel market in Canada and globally is poised for continued success, driven by a new generation of travelers who seek deeper connections and more meaningful experiences.
