Portland’s historic Heathman Hotel is entering an important new chapter with three senior leadership appointments as the landmark property prepares to celebrate its centenary in 2027. The hotel has welcomed Daryn Cyrus as Managing Director, Paige Carlson as Director of Sales & Marketing, and Tyler Groom as Restaurant General Manager. Their combined expertise in luxury accommodation, boutique hospitality, hotel sales and food and beverage management is expected to support the property’s continued development and enhance its guest experience.

The appointments form part of a wider strategy to strengthen the hotel’s operational performance, expand its market presence and build on its longstanding reputation in Portland’s hospitality sector. With its 100th anniversary approaching, Heathman Hotel is focusing on service improvements, refreshed facilities and new dining experiences while preserving the architectural character and heritage that have defined the property for nearly a century.

Daryn Cyrus Returns to Lead Heathman Hotel into Its Next Chapter

Daryn Cyrus takes over as Managing Director, assuming responsibility for the hotel’s daily operations, long-term business strategy and overall service standards. Her appointment is particularly significant because she previously served as General Manager of Heathman Hotel before leaving in 2021. Her return brings valuable familiarity with the property’s identity, operational requirements and position within Portland’s competitive hospitality market.

Cyrus has held senior management positions with Kimpton Hotels, Provenance Hotels and Sage Hospitality, developing extensive experience in boutique and lifestyle accommodation. In her new position, she will work alongside the hotel’s ownership and management teams to improve guest satisfaction, strengthen employee engagement and support the introduction of upgraded facilities and dining services. Her leadership will also be central to preparing the hotel for its centennial celebrations.

Paige Carlson Takes Charge of Sales Growth and Market Expansion

Paige Carlson joins Heathman Hotel as Director of Sales & Marketing, bringing more than 20 years of experience in hospitality sales, commercial strategy and business development. Her career includes leadership positions at several established Pacific Northwest properties, including Salishan Coastal Lodge, River’s Edge Hotel in Portland and The Nines, a Luxury Collection Hotel.

Carlson will oversee initiatives designed to attract new guests and increase business from corporate travellers, leisure visitors, group bookings and other important market segments. Her responsibilities will include strengthening relationships with travel partners, identifying commercial opportunities and expanding awareness of the hotel’s accommodation and hospitality offerings. Her appointment comes as Heathman Hotel seeks to reinforce its position within Portland’s luxury and lifestyle accommodation market ahead of its centenary year.

Tyler Groom to Oversee the New Bar Sprezzatura Dining Experience

Tyler Groom has been appointed Restaurant General Manager and will supervise operations at Bar Sprezzatura, the hotel’s Italian-inspired restaurant and bar associated with Michael Mina and The Mina Group. With more than two decades of experience across independent restaurants, luxury hotels and food and beverage operations, Groom brings substantial knowledge of restaurant management and guest service.

His previous experience includes leadership responsibilities at Kimpton RiverPlace Hotel, Submarine Hospitality, Ava Gene’s and Tusk. At Bar Sprezzatura, Groom will guide the opening team, establish operational procedures and oversee service delivery as the restaurant prepares to welcome guests during the autumn season. His responsibilities will also include employee development, dining standards and creating a consistent experience for visitors. The restaurant represents an important addition to the hotel’s evolving food and beverage offering.

Historic Portland Property Introduces Refreshed Spaces and Guest Facilities

Alongside its leadership changes, Heathman Hotel has undertaken several improvements intended to modernise the guest experience without compromising its historic identity. The lobby has received a comprehensive refresh, introducing updated furnishings and bar service to create a more welcoming environment for guests and visitors.

Another notable development is the return of the hotel’s well-known library to its original mezzanine location. The restored space now offers additional lounge seating, providing guests with an inviting setting for reading, relaxation and informal meetings. The property has also restored architectural features that draw attention to the building’s original design. These improvements reflect an approach that combines contemporary hospitality expectations with the preservation of the hotel’s established character.

Centennial Preparations Signal a New Phase for Portland Hospitality

As Heathman Hotel approaches its 100th anniversary in 2027, its latest appointments and property enhancements highlight a renewed emphasis on long-term growth and guest satisfaction. The strengthened management team will play an important role in developing the hotel’s accommodation, commercial and restaurant operations while maintaining its historic appeal.

The changes also have wider relevance for Portland’s hospitality and tourism sector. Established hotels contribute to the city’s visitor experience by serving leisure travellers, business guests and visitors seeking accommodation with a distinctive local identity. By improving its facilities, strengthening its sales operations and expanding its dining offering, Heathman Hotel aims to remain competitive while attracting both returning guests and new audiences.

Looking ahead, the hotel’s next phase will centre on its centennial preparations, the development of Bar Sprezzatura and continued improvements across its guest services. With experienced leadership now overseeing key areas of the business, Heathman Hotel is positioning itself to celebrate a century of hospitality while preparing for the opportunities of its second hundred years.
