Indian Railways has significantly expanded its special train services to handle the record number of passengers traveling during the festive season. In response to the surge in demand for travel during peak periods like Diwali and Chhath Puja, the Railways has introduced additional trains to ensure smoother, safer, and more efficient journeys for millions of travelers. The expanded services aim to minimize overcrowding, reduce waiting times, and provide timely departures and arrivals. Along with increased train schedules, Indian Railways has implemented enhanced safety measures, optimized station operations, and maintained high cleanliness standards to ensure a comfortable and secure travel experience. These strategic steps demonstrate Indian Railways’ commitment to facilitating stress-free travel, meeting the needs of passengers, and maintaining reliability during this busy time.
Throughout the busy season, passengers have been expressing their appreciation for the outstanding arrangements and service provided by Indian Railways. Many have commended the cleanliness and overall upkeep of the trains, highlighting the well-maintained facilities that ensure a comfortable journey. Comfortable seating, punctuality, and seamless operations have been lauded by travelers, who have noticed a noticeable difference in the quality of their travel experience compared to previous years.
Stations across the country have also seen improvements, with increased focus on cleanliness, security, and passenger comfort. Jabalpur Railway Station, for example, has been singled out for its well-maintained platforms, tidy waiting areas, and an overall increase in hygiene standards. These efforts have significantly enhanced the travel experience, ensuring that passengers feel safe and comfortable, even during the peak travel periods.
Passengers traveling on routes from Bengaluru to Kolkata have similarly praised the cleanliness of the trains, as well as the polite and attentive staff. Many commented on the high standards of service, which have been maintained even with the pressure of the holiday rush. These positive reviews highlight the Railways’ ability to balance high traffic while maintaining the same level of service and comfort that passengers expect.
One of the standout improvements that travelers have noted is the streamlined ticketing and booking systems. The introduction of simplified online booking options and the ease of mobile-based ticketing have made the process of reserving seats much more efficient, reducing the stress of last-minute bookings and long queues at ticket counters. This, combined with the efficient management of passenger flow at stations, has led to a more organized and hassle-free travel experience.
Another area that has garnered praise is the vigilance of the Railway Protection Force (RPF). Passengers have highlighted the enhanced security measures in place, with RPF personnel maintaining a visible presence at stations and aboard trains. The RPF has been instrumental in managing crowd control, ensuring safety, and handling seat allocations during the high-demand period, all of which have contributed to the smooth operation of trains during the festive season.
To handle the surge in passenger numbers during Diwali and Chhath Puja, Indian Railways has implemented an extensive special train schedule. Over the course of 61 days, from October 1 to November 30, more than 12,000 special trains are being operated to meet the increased demand for travel. This initiative is a direct response to the growing need for additional services, ensuring that everyone can reach their destination without difficulty.
In the lead-up to Chhath Puja, Indian Railways has announced the addition of 1,500 special trains, operating over the next five days, to accommodate the increased number of travelers. With an average of 300 extra trains running daily, the Railways is well-equipped to manage the surge in passenger traffic, offering greater flexibility for travelers during this peak period.
Alongside these special services, Indian Railways has already operated 4,493 special train trips over the past 21 days, averaging 213 additional trips per day. These additional trips help to alleviate the pressure on regular services and ensure that passengers can reach their homes for Diwali without any hassle.
Currently, the total number of scheduled trips stands at 11,865, including 9,338 reserved and 2,203 unreserved trips. This is a substantial increase compared to the previous year’s total of 7,724 special trains for Puja and Diwali, underscoring the growing demand for train services during the festive season. The significant rise in the number of special trains this year reflects Indian Railways’ commitment to enhancing passenger experience by ensuring that everyone has access to safe and reliable transport during peak travel times.
On October 19, Indian Railways successfully managed a remarkable 36,000 passengers at Udhna Station, representing a 50% increase from the same day in 2024. All passengers were comfortably boarded by 4 PM, ensuring they could reach their destinations in time for Diwali. To manage this surge in traffic, authorities implemented dedicated holding areas, increased the number of ticket counters, and deployed additional staff for crowd management. In just five days, over 1.2 lakh passengers traveled from Udhna, showcasing Indian Railways’ ability to handle such massive volumes of travelers with efficiency and care.
Indian Railways has expanded its special train services to accommodate the record number of festive travelers, ensuring safer, more efficient, and hassle-free journeys during peak periods like Diwali and Chhath Puja. This expansion includes additional trains, enhanced safety measures, and improved station operations to meet the surge in demand.
Indian Railways’ success in managing the travel rush during the festive season highlights its ability to adapt and meet the growing needs of passengers. From the large number of special trains being operated to the enhanced cleanliness, safety, and overall efficiency, the Railways has ensured that millions of travelers can enjoy a safe, comfortable, and hassle-free journey. By implementing these measures, Indian Railways has once again demonstrated its commitment to providing exceptional service, even in the face of high demand, allowing passengers to travel with peace of mind and reach their homes for the festive celebrations.
